Faculty Governance at Urban Institutions: A Metropolitan Comparison

Metropolitan campuses with urban missions encourage the development of programs and curriculum whereby faculty are essential for achievement. Yet, the role of faculty in governance at urban institutions is rarely discussed. Based on a national comparison of four-year institutions, this article examines faculty governance at metropolitan universities. Findings show that faculty at metropolitan universities report slightly lower levels of influence over decision-making and lower levels of participation in governance. Challenges and opportunities for improvement are also discussed.Downloads
