The Community as Classroom: Multiple Perspectives on Student Learning

This paper reports on the multiple perspectives of students, community members, and faculty to document the impact of student participation in service-learning courses. A unique aspect of this paper is the large sample size and the use of multiple qualitative and quantitative methods over several years. The results indicate that service-learning affects students across multiple variables. The authors also discuss the teaching methods that create these effects and the related assessment practices.Downloads
