Keywords:
Higher Education, Colleges of EducationAbstract
This article describes changes in the relationship between four colleges of education (DePaul, Roosevelt, and Chicago State Universities, and the University of Illinois at Chicago) and the Chicago Public Schools during the years 1972-1997. In all cases, colleges of education addressed changes in the schools with programs of study and research. Private foundation funding and strong leadership assisted their efforts. Constraining their efforts were certain institutional characteristics and an everincreasing pressure to produce traditional research.Downloads
