Abstract

In 1996, The University of North Carolina developed a plan that strongly emphasized the strategic involvement of school districts and communities in the preparation and development of teachers, administrators, and other education professionals. The likelihood of longterm success increases as the partners and interested stakeholders understand the factors contributing to successful partnerships. In the most urban areas of the stateCharlotte, Greensboro, Durham, and Raleighthe partnerships are beginning to address some of the larger social context of the schools, such as family literacy and health needs.
