In the Interest of Community Health: Building Relationships between Metropolitan Universities and Academic Health Centers

Metropolitan universities have an excellent track record in establishing partnerships with local government agencies and community organizations to address social problems. This article discusses the importance of partnerships between metropolitan universities and academic health centers for addressing community health issues. The collaborative efforts of the University of North Texas and the UNT Health Science Center at Fort Worth are discussed with reference to a newly developed public health (M.P.H.) program and other projects. The unique opportunities and challenges for these relationships are highlighted.Downloads
