The article suggests a conceptual framework for the creation of knowledge as a basis for an expanded, more inclusive view of scholarship. Knowledge flows along many directions and is created in many different ways. Wherever this happens, scholarship can exist. The article suggests a formulation for the common characteristics of all scholarship, and for a set of common criteria by which it can be assessed.
