School-university collaboration Is important for practical, as well as ethical reasons. A public metropolitan university unwilling to engage In authentic interactive exchange relationships with Its community risks alienation of support and unwarranted state Intrusion. Such a state-dominated university ceases to be a source of critical objectivity and becomes a passive producer of whatever transient state needs dictate. The practical ground for collaboration thus becomes ethical, in that a university so dominated meets neither Its own needs nor that of the state.Downloads
