Abstract

A recent study of student services at a number of metropolitan colleges and universities indicates that the services needed by urban, first generation students are available but underutilized. Underutilization, often viewed as related to the characteristics of commuting students, is also a result of the organizational patterns of student services and the methodologies used for service delivery. Both organization and delivery methodology can and should be modified to meet the needs of urban students.
