About the Journal
Focus and Scope
The mission of the Journal of Legal Aspects of Sport (JLAS) is to increase the understanding and advancement of legal issues as applied to all aspects of the sport paradigm. JLAS endeavors to publish peer-reviewed manuscripts, in any tradition of scholarship, that are of the highest scholarly quality and scientific rigor covering legal aspects relating to sport, recreation, and related fields for the purpose of informing policy, advancing the body of knowledge, and influencing decision-making. JLAS serves as an interdisciplinary outlet for legal issues in the sport, recreation, and related fields to meet the needs of researchers, academicians, practitioners, and policymakers.
Publication Frequency
The Journal of Legal Aspects of Sport is published twice per year in February and August.
Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.

Journal History
The Journal of Legal Aspects of Sport (JLAS) has been the flagship publication for the Sport and Recreation Law Association since 1991. JLAS is strongly committed to the publication of theoretical and applied research on law and policy issues from any tradition of scholarship. Published twice per year in February and August, JLAS is an international, peer-reviewed journal that has an interdisciplinary appeal to researchers and practitioners in the field. Members of the article review board hold a juris doctorate (J.D.), doctorate of philosophy (Ph.D.), or both, and possess considerable experience in academia as well as the sport and recreation industry. Additionally, article review board members are notable scholars who have written extensively about areas of legal aspects relating to sport, recreation, and related fields. JLAS encourages the submission of manuscripts about the legal and policy issues relevant to professional, intercollegiate, interscholastic, recreational, and Olympic sport. Additionally, topics may include the legal, policy, and associated risk management issues impacting sport clubs, fitness, health and wellness, and physical activity.
