Steffany Baker graduated from Herron School of Art and Design in 2018 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting, with a minor in Art History. She was the 2016 recipient of the Paul Zimmerman Memorial scholarship for excellence in painting. At Herron School of Art and Design Steffany focused on painting, with exploration in collage and video art. She describes her work in the style of geometric abstraction. Steffany’s paintings can be characterized by their minimal compositions, saturated color, and subtle kinetic illusions. She utilizes basic shapes and lines to investigate color and its capacity to communicate visual and emotional sensations. Steffany has participated in Indianapolis based group exhibitions Where’s the Punchline? and Room 221 at The Oilwick, This is Painting at Marsh Gallery in Eskenazi Hall IUPUI, In addition, Steffany exhibited in Herron’s annual juried show Undergraduate Exhibition at the Berkshire, Reese and Paul Galleries for three consecutive years, in which she received several honors.
